alternatives for Realplayer?

Are there any substitute or alternative programs out there that will play Realplayer-type files (.rm)(.ra) so I can avoid having to install Realplayer or RealOne or other Real stuff. Would like to play streaming as well as non-streaming .rm files.

Maybe this has already been discussed in the forum and you might have a link to an old post.
    Thanks very much.

(Edited by Tricky on 20-Aug-03 21:40. Added another link to a site I hope is useful...)
Playing streaming RealAudio with a program other than RealPlayer would probably require the use of an illegal or hacked program. There are lots of sites that will let you choose the format of the stream, i.e. Windows Media, RealPlayer, QuickTime, etc. If RP is the only choice offered, I'd forget it before I would install the RP program.

Converting a file on your own PC may be a different story. This program claims to be able to make conversions from RA to MP3 and more. Streambox Ripper. Of course, once the conversion is successful, you could play the file on any PC audio program.

Doesn't exactly answer the question you've asked, but it may provide a way to play files you already have.

One more place to look... Wisecroft Ripper and Others...

I won't install RP either, unfortunately one site that only offers RealPlayer is the BBC. What a

Take a look at this: Real Alternative 1.04. I don't use this so I can't vouch for it. Just did a google search for 'real alternative software'.
