Favorites - adding desciptions (IE6)

Back with Netscape Navigator, when you saved a Bookmark, you could also type in some descriptive notes & comments that stayed with each Bookmark. Then later on when going through your list, your could read those comments in the Bookmark properties menu.
I had to switch to IE6 earlier this year, and the IE Favorites don't seem to have that feature. Have I just missed it? Is there a tweak or something to regain that functionality?
(It was useful to add info like where or when the link was found and saved, or why I was added it to the list).

Two Points Mark--

Up to a character limit whose number I can't name, and will have to look up, you can add fairly long descriptions with IE favorites. Ctrl +D shortcut BTW will add a favorite to the top and then when you get a reasonable number you may want to use the organize button to organize them into subfolders. There are two free downloads that might help you have more versatility becaue they both make your favorites into a hyperlinked home page that comes up quicker and is easier to work with:

Netscape stored bookmarks in an HTML page, which allowed a lot of flexibility in formatting. By contrast, IE stores favorites as tiny .URL files that don't seem to allow for comments. If you open a favorite in WordPad for this thread, it looks like this:

While you might be able to manually insert a new field into it, that probably wouldn't do anything useful (and might break it). Not sure if the third party applications do a better job while integrating with the Favorites menu and pane. You might have to choose between the built-in menus and a Netscape-style HTML document.

When Netscape was king, and I had plenty of bookmarks, I used that description field as you did. When it became a hassle to download a new browser over the phone line, I used IE, but kept my bookmark file. By that time, I knew basic HTML coding, and was able to update the bookmark.html file myself.

I then set the homepage for IE to my bookmark.html file.

Now, I've come full circle, and use Mozilla, which uses a bookmarks.html file <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>.

Thanks to all for your comments. I didn't previously realize that the Microsoft and the Netscape browser authors choose such radically different methods of doing Favorites-Bookmarks.
SMBP, I know that in shortcuts to most applications, and shortcuts to Excel and Word documents, when you right-click on the shortcut and then go to properties, there is a field for comments.
However, with IE favorites files, which apparently are a shortcut-like type of file, there doesn't seem to be that sort of comments field for some reason. Oh, well.
