    Not Receiving All Messages

<img src=/S/shrug.gif border=0 alt=shrug width=39 height=15>I installed the preview release of IE6. I have never had a problem with any of the other IE releases, so I thought nothing of installing it. Everything seem to be working fine until I used Outlook 2000. About 20% of my emails had not subject titles, and half of though had no message included in the email. Is anyone else having this problem, if so is there any fixes. I am reluctant to uninstall IE6, because I have read horror stories of people who have attempted this, only to have to reformat the hard drive. Please spare me any lectures. I know I was not thinking straight when I did this.

    Re: Not Receiving All Messages

Lots are and MS is aware of the problem. i'm not aware of a solution, some have uninstalled it and reinstalled IE5 or 5.5 and had varying degrees of success but it's not a sure thing as you have heard.

what build/mode of outlook and OS?

Thanks for replying to my post. When I did not see any other posting such as mind I became concerned that I might have an isolated problem

My operating system is Windows 98SE. I am not familiar with the term build/mode. The version is an OEM software Outlook 2000 SR-1 (9.0.0.3821)

    Re: Not Receiving All Messages

From what i've seen on a mailing list, it's isolated to win98 and NT4 and possibly the IMO mode of outlook. the common thread in the messages seems to be the us-ascii charset and it seems to be restricted to mailing list mail.

One guy thinks it's related to the java vm files but no one can make the link to it. I can't even repro it here because my copy of IE6 is on ME, not win98 and i use corp mode of outlook.

    Re: Not Receiving All Messages

Have you used Outlook's "Detect & Repair" feature found under "Help" in the toolbar?
Also several times when I was running Win98, I had to do a complete uninstall & reinstall of Office 2000, which had great results each time. (I learned not to play around and try to tweak things too much, because it is easy to corrupt software when you don't know what the heck you're doing!) All my personal files and information was saved, and perhaps if you do this, the reinstallation of Office 2000 would integrate better with IE6 - which by the way I am running on my machine with Win2000 with no problems whatsoever.
I hope this helps...best of luck!

Just to let others know, I too downgraded to IE6.0 and now cannot read any messages from my mail lists. No subject line any longer or message body. Win98, Outlook 2000 build 2711 Internel only mode.

    Re: Not Receiving All Messages

I have learned that I can use Outlook Express 6.0 to view all the emails as I had in Outlook 2000. My rules that I had in Outlook 2000 will work in OE6.0

At least we have an alternative.

    Re: Not Receiving All Messages

A possible fix is making the rounds:
mlang.dll appears to be the culprit.

Use System File Checker to extract it from the windows
    cab then reboot.

    please post back your results.

    Re: Not Receiving All Messages

Replacing the mlang.dll seems to be working and appears to be the fix. At least for me. The mlang.dll that was on my system was 533kb (3-16-01) and I replaced it with the mlang.dll 481kb (4-31-99) located on my Windows 98SE CD. I want to download some more emails to be absolutely sure.
Thanks for your help. After I download a few more batches of email, I'll respond back again, to let you know how everything is going.

I have tried to find the file you mention in the cab files and cannot. You say to use System File Checker is that a part of Win98?

I looked on my Win98 SE CD and can't find the file you talk about. Can you explain how I find it?

    Re: Not Receiving All Messages

Okay, I'm stupid. I found System File Checker and extracted mlang.dll and rebooted. Now when I am in Outlook 2000 the screen doesn't want to refresh. By that I mean if I go from one folder to the next I see remenants of the previos folder. I get two dividing header bars and in the preview pane I can see part of the previous window viewed. For example if I jump from this web page to Outlook I see this web page in the preview pane. Any ideas?

    Re: Not Receiving All Messages

this is the first report i've seen with refresh problems. does sfc report any other files might need replaced? someone reported that it listed 3 but not mlang.

someone reported outlook crashing but they discovered that exporting the mail as csv then importing it corrected it.

    Re: Not Receiving All Messages

I did "Detect and Repair" it seems to have fixed the refresh problem. But I did have some difficulty in getting my preview pane restored. I tried changing the settings in Views and then ended up closing and re-starting Outlook. Seems to be working fine now. I did not see any other files discovered by System checker.
