No More SPAM? (XP/OE6/Earthlink)

Has anyone noticed a significant drop of SPAM in their inbox? I have been receiving between 4 and 8 spam/junk mail items per day. I don't visit chat rooms or post my email address, so that's not too bad. I have been regularly reporting SPAM to SpamCop.net. I have Earthlink DSL and have had the Spaminator set to medium for a long time, no changes there. I get most of my mail forwarded from a MailBank/NetIdentity name domain account.

However, I have not received ANY spam or unsolicited email since Aug. 13 (that last one was that "...We have just charged your credit card for money laundry service in amount of $234.65..."). It just seemed to stop. I keep expecting it to start up again, but... I don't know what happened. Suffice it to say I'm very pleased. I seem to be getting all my regular mail (I think / I hope <img src=/S/confused.gif border=0 alt=confused width=15 height=20> ). I'd just like to know why.

Has anyone else seen a drop in SPAM?

Funny you should bring this up. I just registered a new domain and set up new e-mail accounts on our mail server and already we are receiving spam. We haven't even used any of these accounts yet - are the spammers using some sort of random domain/name generator??

Maybe your ISP started filtering? According to a CyberAtlas story I got this week, spam increased only 1% last month from the previous month, but constituted 50% of all e-mail sent.

Two of my accounts on pipex - a UUNet/Worldcom offshoot - are consistently spammed. The intake has, however, dropped from about 50-70 to 20-30 a day. I don't think it's anything in particular at the ISP end - as the same old rubbish keeps turning up in the subject line. I did actually ask the ISP to close one of them down, but they refused. OTOH pipex has the policy of handing out preset alphanumeric account names. It is conceivable that the policy of deleting without opening is paying off slightly.

A DROP in Spam? If anything, if your junk mail has decreased, then I must have picked the overflow. Spam is getting out of control. We need SOMEONE to develop a surefire way to prevent this from getting into our mailboxes.period !!! Once they see that their "messages" are not getting to enough people, then they might stop and only then.

I'm SURE that there are some mighty smart people out there who are going to come out with a TRUE blocking tool. Soon, I hope. <img src=/S/fanfare.gif border=0 alt=fanfare width=31 height=23>

Well... I can't explain it. My home machine picks up my email every ten minutes. Eight days and counting and still ZERO SPAM. The only ideas I have are either Earthlink just got much better w/ filtering spam (and didn't tell anyone) or all my spam (4-8 per day) was coming from the same person/business (primarily ** Spam post - please alert a Moderator **, "Enlargement", debt relief and porn) and they decided to do something else for a living.

I du'no... but I'm not complaining.
