printer folder unstable

I have Win98SE and for some reason yesterday it started to freak out and it has something to do with the printers folder. System hangs if I go into it and I have to hit CTR-ALT-DEL to see that "NOT RESPONDING". Then I close it down and then the START button won't work? Is there a way to do a soft reinstall of Windows98? Thanks in Advance!

There is a way to do a soft (refresh?) install of Windows.

Have you tried removing/reinstalling the printer? How about with newer drivers? If you have more than one printer installed, do they work as expected?

    Thanks,

(Edited by MichaelRead on 21-Aug-03 21:07. )
Couple of things you can do:

1 - Use the system file checker to see if any system files are corrupted or missing
2 - Run at least two different registry cleaners - I have found that one finds things that the other does not find. I have used System Mechanic, RegVac, and Advanced Registry Optimizer with good results. Google on them and you will find the download links.
3 - Go to Google and get Aida32...it will tell you alot of things about your system, processes, etc.

    Edited to add:

4 - Make sure you have a good anti virus program and check your system with current virus definitions!

Do you have the correct drivers for the two different printers?
Do you have a network at work or is it a local printer?

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.
