    Print 2 pages/page with Bar (Word 2002 (10.4524.4219) SP-2)

I am trying to print two pages per page in Landscape mode with a vertical bar dividing the two pages. I know I did this many many years ago, but can't figure out how to print the bar. I can print the two pages on one page, with the desired distance between them, although the inside/outside margins seem to function opposite of what I would have expected (and as I read the on-screen help).

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Glenn

The print two to a page function is unrelated to the page imposition that it sounds like you are looking for. The inside/outside margins are flipped because that setting is for printing a single sheet onto both sides of the paper rather than on the left/right side of one side. The difference is that one final bound document has the odd page on the left and the other has the odd page on the right.

It is however possible to print the document so that the pages are imposed correctly on a 'two to a page' print setting. To do so you send the pages in the correct order and need a multiple of 4 pages.

For instance the print order for an eight page layout is 8,1,2,7,6,3,4,5

If you put that print order into the Pages field you should get the right order and margins out of the printer.

If you need page imposition then I think you should use specialised software to do this such as Fineprint which is shareware software that I have never used but have seen endorsed here on several occaisions. Here is a link to the site which may help.

I'm not sure about Word 2002, but in Word 2000, if you bring up the Print dialog box, there is an option in the lower right corner for pages per sheet. Is this what your talking about?

I'm not that concerned with the page order, in that printing two pages on one side and the next two on the other works fine for what I'm doing.

That's great information for next year when I have to create a booklet for a club I'm in. I didn't realize that you could do that in the Pages field. Thanks.

I have it printing two pages per sheet (File->Page Setup->Margins). Again, I've learned something about Word. I didn't realize you could adjust the number of pages/sheet on the print dialog. I guess I don't look around that much! Thanks.

<P ID="edit" class=small>(Edited by Phil Rabichow on 22-Aug-03 13:36. to add addendum)</P>There may be another way, but one low tech way would be to run the pages through first, printing only a line down the center. You could do this with the Drawing toolbar & then print the pages. There may be a way to do this with using the bar tab, but I couldn't see it.

Addendum: There may be one other way. I went to Format/Borders & Shading.../Page Borders & created a custom border on the right side of the page. Then I set the right margin to zero in File/Page Setup. You might have to play with both the margins & the Page Border options (distance from text). Use the pages per sheet option. Essentially, the right page border on the even number pages is cut off so it doesn't print when you use
    Cheers,

It sounds like you are after the 2 columns with a separator line. This means you are not dealing with two pages per sheet but two columns per page.

Try setting your document as landscape and then choose Format > Columns and set 2 columns with a tick in the Line Between check box.

    Andrew,

That sounds like exactly what I'm after. Thanks.
