MapPoint Tries to Install Every Time I Launch Word (Office 2000)

I had to re-install Windows 2000 again. So I did some cleaning up and also re-installed Office. It was a PITA, but I got everything working pretty much the way I want.
    EXCEPT
Every time I launch Word or Excel [and I would assume also the other Office Apps] I get a Windows Installer box:
"The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM or other removable disk that is not available.
"Insert the'Microsoft MapPoint 2002 North America" disk and click OK"

    WELL...
    (1) I have installed MapPoint since installing Office,
    (2) I do NOT want any links to MapPoint,
    (3) the Browse button will not accept my pointing to the copies of the 2 CD's I have on my HD,
    (4) I think I have "inserted the CD" in response to the message [but I might be wrong about that]
    (5) and I DON'T WANT TO INSERT THE CD!

    MINI RANT
I am really tired of the MS propensity for inserting MapPoint buttons into my carefully customized menu bars, activating the Web Menu Bar, adding Open Office Documents to my Start Menu, etc. STOP IT
    Sorry about that...

    Any suggestions?

    Doug--

This does sound really annoying. This might get it out of your hair without doing more involved things like renaming files or having to uninstall reinstall Office--if you're not sure if you did acquiesce to it's wishes once--just go on and put in Map Point's CD and let the install progress bar run--see if that will stop the prompt mechanism. I know this is simplictic, but it might.

Re: MapPoint Tries to Install Every Time I Launch Word (Office 2000)

I was quite sure I had responded by inserting the CD.
    I must have been wrong.
I did insert and something got written on my HD.
Now when I lauch Word I don't get the box.
    And MS did -
...insert the damn MapPoint icon in my customized tool bars...
...add several other icons in my tool bar (related to tables, I believe)
...reinstall the Open Office Documents and New Office Documents in my Start Menu
...add new icons/shortcuts to my Start / Programs list
...add new folders to my Start / Programs list
...and who knows what else? Will the damned Clippy start appearing next?
    ---------------------
I think the world of Microsoft and Bill Gates amazes me [maybe because I'm a Harvard drop-out too].
    I.e., I am a big fan.
But stuff like this just makes me so angry I want to hit something.
And this is for something I didn't want to do!
    --------------------
I guess I'm just in a rant mood today.
    --------------------
    Thanks

I feel your pain and often feel the same way to paraphrase WJ Clinton, but I'm trying to see where you are now?

Is this what happened after you took my suggestion and inserted the CD--
    And MS did -
...insert the damn MapPoint icon in my customized tool bars...
...add several other icons in my tool bar (related to tables, I believe)
...reinstall the Open Office Documents and New Office Documents in my Start Menu
...add new icons/shortcuts to my Start / Programs list
...add new folders to my Start / Programs list
and does it still try to install MapPoint over and over every time you launch Word?
