    Windows Updates (WinXP)

I went to the Microsoft website and performed an automatic Windows update scan. It detected that I had about 20 critical updates to install. After I had selected them and went on the installation, the progress bar displayed the status but stopped at the end. It did not ask me to reboot the system. After I got out and rebooted, I went back to MS site and noticed that I still had 19 updates to install. Does it mean I have to install and reboot one update at a time? I also notice that the installation is very slow. Is it normal?

    Thanks

I don't think it's a good idea to try to do all 20 updates at once. ( some it will only let you do a particular one at a time ) If no window pops up saying so, I would select 3 0r 4 maybe and download & install them. When you finish them it MAY ask to reboot. If not, go back and take a few more. It depends on what files are being updated in a upgrade that determines if a reboot is needed.

As to speed, do you mean downloding or installing after the download is complete? The Update site has been pretty busy lately with a lot of people trying to get updated because of the flurry of worms going around. If you had 20, you sound like you haven't updated in some time .
    Best to keep cuurent on them. <img src=/S/hmmn.gif border=0 alt=hmmn width=15 height=15> <img src=/S/yep.gif border=0 alt=yep width=15 height=15>

Long ago, there was a time when men cursed and beat on the ground with sticks. It was called witchcraft.
    Today it is called golf!

Downloading updates is often slow, and the progress indicator may vanish from time to time. Because of the recent rash of virus/worm infections (MS Blaster and SoBig), many more people than usual are visiting the Windows Update site, so the servers may have a hard job keeping up with all the update requests.

You shouldn't have to reboot after each update, but if you have 20 updates to install it might take a very long time. You may want to select a few at a time.
