Jet 4.0 Service Packs (Access 2000)

MIcrosoft recommend SP7 for Jet 4.0, and I have read elsewhere that SP4 and SP5 have a lot of problems.

On Windows 2000, how do you determine which service pack is already installed? I understand Jet is not supplied with MDAC 2.6 onwards, and I think I'm on MDAC 2.7 SP1.

MSKB article ACC2000: The Updated Version of Microsoft Jet 4.0 Is Available in the Download Center contains an overview of the version numbers of the components of the Jet service packs. One way to find out these number for the version you have, is Help | About... > System Info > Software > Loaded modules. Look for msjet40.dll.

Hi - thanks for that. I've established that I have SP6, so at least I don't have the problematic 4 or 5. Do you know of any articles that describe what has been fixed in SP7 from SP6?

    Cheers

No, I'm sorry. The MSKB article I pointed you to says near the end "For additional information about existing problems that may be resolved by the updated version of Microsoft Jet, click the article numbers below to view the articles in the Microsoft Knowledge Base", followed by an SMBP-like list of links. The ones I clicked describe problems that have been resolved in any of the service packs, not specifically in SP7. And note the "may have been resolved".

... followed by an SMBP-like list of links ...

I have no constructive information to add on the subject of Jet 4.0 Service Packs, but thought that the observation above was pretty damn funny. I checked the MSKB article, there were appx 28 links at end of article. SMBP (in a previous incarnation known as "Defrag") could top that with his eyes closed....

Trivia note: SMBP is an acronym for Server Message Block Protocol, which, according to MS Computer Dictionary, Fifth Edition, is "a file-sharing protocol designed to allow networked computers to transparently access files that reside on remote systems over a variety of networks." I would provide some additional links for your edification but none could be found....

    HTH but probably not....
