    Mouse with XP (home sp1)

Two of my games, TRaiderII & TRaiderIII went unstable, the mouse would not control the program. Changed and checked everything to no avail. Then tried re-connecting the joystick port. All work after that. Contrary-wise one grandson's computer would not run some other game programs with the joystick connected!
I don't know what the logical connection between the mouse and joystick is.
Just passing along something to try to fix an ailing machine.

Some Games are not setup to work with JoySticks, just the mouse.

Yes but.....in all cases the joystick is not being used, just it's presence or not makes the difference. Hmmmmm....?

Sorry, ya lost me there. If the game is not setup for the Joystick, and only works with a mouse per instructions from the Manufacturer. The Joysticks presence is not known wheather it's pluged in or not. I have a Joystick {Wingman Extreme} pluged in and setup.I play all kinds of games. If I play a game that doesn't use or won't use a Joystick that game has no idea the Joystick is pluged in and ready. So I don't understand what you mean by, just it's presence or not makes a difference.
