    e-mail archives (XP Outlook)

How can I access (to edit and save some of) my archived e-mails? I have Microsoft Outlook on OfficePro on XP home version. (Also I was born before 1970, so I am computer-challenged.)

    Re: e-mail archives (XP Outlook)

In Outlook, select View | Folder List. If you have set Outlook to AutoArchive items, the Folder List will probably start with Archive Folders. If you like, you can drag it to your Outlook Bar on the left to create a shortcut to your Archive Folders, and you can close the Folder List after that, or leave it visible.

If you don't see Archive Folders, do the following.

If you use the AutoArchive function built into Outlook to archive your e-mails, they are stored in a .pst file. To find out what the name and location of this file is, select Tools | Options..., activate the Other tab, and click AutoArchive. The text box in the center of the dialog contains the path and file name of the archive file. On my Windows XP system, it is something like

    Cocuments and Settings<HansV>Local SettingsApplication DataMicrosoftOutlookarchive.pst

Close the dialogs until you're back in Outlook. Select File | Open | Outlook Data File..., browse to your archive file and click OK. Archive Folders should now appear in the Folders List.
