Help files in Word 2002 (Word 2002)

Hi,
I use Word 97 and don't have a copy of Word 2002 to experiment on. But, using Word 2002 under XP on a friend's laptop, I was surprised that the help had neither index nor Table of Contents. After a little snooping I found 2 help files, WdMain10.chm and WdToc10.chm, both of which do have Table of Contents but apparently no index.

Question 1: What do you have to do in Word 2002 to get the regular Table of Contents?
Question 2: Did they really get rid of the old semi-browsable index?
Thanks,
Al Gruber

It's there, but I find HTML help to be a tad buggy. Sometimes you need to restart the application or Windows to get the window to load right. When it does, you get a two-pane display.

(Edited by Andrew Lockton on 04-Sep-03 11:41. Found it)
From memory, I think you have some icons at the top of the help screen and you can click one of these to bring up the index or search screens.

I will have to check it tonight and let you know.
Attached is a screen shot which shows the icon you need to click.

As I said, I don't have that copy of 2002 anymore but I know I tried all available icons and did not see either index or TOC.
In previous versions, Help gave you a choice of 3 tabs labeled approximately
"Table of Contents", "Index" and "Word Search".
I'm particularly interested in whether you can get the index choice and whether it gives you something that resembles the old type of index.
Thanks, Al

You have to launch help from inside the application, otherwise I don't think you can get the two pane display. Would love to learn otherwise!! Anyway, if you do launch from, say, Word, you do get full navigation.

Thanks, that's exactly what I was looking for. Somehow, I could not get these three tabs when I was running 2002 under XP. But I was able to find file wdMain10.chm which let me navigate using the ToC.
Regards, Al
