    c drive icon

Hello I hope someone can help me I have created a problem and need some help fixing it. I was downloading a program and instead of installing it I right clicked it and sent it to C drive. Instead of it going in my C drive it went on my C drive. Now when I double click the c icon it starts installing the program. I have deleted all of the program out of my computer and I have also tried to restore it and nothing works. It seems like to me that the program is on top of my c icon because for a split second after i turn on my computer the icon is a computer and then changes to a sheet of paper with a bent right corner. So needless to say I go to my computer double click the local disk c icon and it starts installing the program. Now i can right click and go down to open and it opens my c drive. Before you get to open it reads autoplay, install streets and trips, install pocket, view read me file, search, then open. I really don't know much about computer language so i need help in a simple way, Thank you!!!!!!

What Operating System are you using? What program was you trying to install? Can you give me a Screenshot of your C: Drive opened. I think I can find the file that is giving you the problem.

You can probably delete the program from a DOS (command) prompt. What version of Widows are you running, and what was the name of the program you downloaded?

Yeah, we are a team huh. I think he has an autorun file from the program he was trying to download on C: that has taken over his C: Drive Icon Autorun text file. He has one to many Autorun Files on C: Drive.

That was my thought, and trying for a generic instruction how what to look for then safely remove gave me a <img src=/S/headthrob.gif border=0 alt=headthrob width=15 height=15>.

He should only have one Autorun File in C: Drive, and that should be for the C: drive ICON. Any other Autorun File under C: Drive is going to try and start everytime he clicks on C: Drive.

This might be easier. Look in C: Drive and see how many of these files below that you have. Double click on them and tell me what they say inside the file.

    Re: c drive icon

I looked in c drive and the only autorun i saw was notepad with Open=cd1run.exe, Icon=st.ico, shelllaunchMPcomand=setup.exe, shelllaunchMP=&install street and trips. Thats without going into the programs themselves.

Delete that file and reboot, that's what is causing your problem, and then get back to me.

    Re: c drive icon

Run that by me again. I'm afraid I'm not following you. Can you double click {from your desktop} your Computer Icon, do you see a list of your Drives, such as C: Drive, Arive and so on.?
If you right click on your C: Drive Icon from Explorer you should get a window with a list of things to choose from. If you left click Crive from Explorer you should see the stuff in Crive in the left window and it should open stuff in Crive under the C: in Explorer.

Download this little program, it's free. And then run the repair Icon Cache. Refreshem

Or you can download this registry patch to your Desktop and double click on it and it will repair your Icon Cache, once you get to this webb site here XP Icon Repair , scroll down to XP Icon Repair and click to download.

    Re: c drive icon

ok i will do that but to clear things up i go to my computer and click it takes me to c drive icon when i double click that it brings up the search window instead of going into c drive. when i right click the drop down box reads search, open, browse, explore, etc, so i figure instead of having an install program on my c drive i have the search program on my c drive. I will go to that site and download that program and see if that helps.
