Publishing PowerPoint Presentations to Intranet (PowerPoint 2000/Windows 2

I am trying to create an intranet site that will host minutes/presentations of past meetings.

We create the presentations in Powerpoint. After which, I edit to include the minutes. When the presentation is complete, I publish the presentation as a webpage.

This is all fine and dandy.

When I publish the presentation as a webpage, I save it to the shared drive where we keep the original presentation. I then copy the file to my root site, update the Minute's page in Dreamweaver, and put the page and minutes up to the remote site.

The problem is, that when you try to access the web version of the presentation through the Minute's link, you end up with Page Not Found. This seems to be happening because some system setting is sending the link to the ORIGINAL presentation on the shared drive, rather than to the root/remote presentation location.

    Any ideas?

I'm not sure I understand this part: I then copy the file to my root site, update the Minute's page in Dreamweaver, and put the page and minutes up to the remote site. and this part: The problem is, that when you try to access the web version of the presentation through the Minute's link,

You save your PPT file as a webpage to a shared drive, then you copy it to your site. Then you update the minutes page in Dreamweaver... What exactly are you doing when you do that update?

Then you click a link somewhere (sorry, not following "through the Minutes link" -- where is that link and how was it created?) and get a Page Not Found because that link is pointing to the PPT file on the shared drive.

What if you use an FTP program to upload what you "saved as webpage" instead of copy/pasting it?

Also, when you do a "save as webpage" with PPT, it creates all kinds of files. Are you uploading all of those--maintaining the folder structure--and which of those file are you linking to?

Re: Publishing PowerPoint Presentations to Intranet (PowerPoint 2000/Windo

Sorry for the confusion - thank you for the questions.

When I work in Dreamweaver to create my website, I have a root site (that which is local and on which I make my changes prior to going public) and a remote site (the one seen by the public and accessed through the intranet).

I take the PPT from the shared drive and publish it as a webpage. I then copy that folder (support files et al included) to the root site's location.

The PPT are minutes from a monthly meeting. On the Minutes webpage I would like to have a listing of the meeting dates, a user could then click on the appropriate date and have the PPT come up as a webpage with navigation buttons along the left.

To create the link in Dreamweaver: I have typed in the date, highglighted the text, and, in the Properties window, selected the presentation file in its html format and established a document relative link.

When I Preview the website/webpage from my PC...all is fine...I can access all the minutes/presentations. When others in my office try test runs, they get a Page Not Found message.

Turns out, as I watch my PC open the presentation that some setting is telling the computer to access the information from its original location on the department share drive rather than from its location on both the root and remote site locations.

I have tried deleting all web-published presentations and saving directly to the remote site's location to no avail. Does this help clarify? If not, please let me know. I'm going crazy trying to figure out what the problem is.

    THANKS! <img src=/S/cooked.gif border=0 alt=cooked width=50 height=46>

    Hm.

I wonder if this is something odd in Dreamweaver? When you say you selected the presentation file in its html format and established a document relative link., what file are you linking to?

At any rate, since Dreamweaver's out of my area of knowledge, I'll just mention that I use Front Page, and if I were to link to a PPT HTML presentation, I'd link to outline.htm in the Presentation2_files folder. (I just ran a quick test, and named my PPT file Presentation2.)

I wouldn't link to, for instance, the Presentation2.htm file, although I would indeed upload Presentation2.htm along with the folder Presentation2_files and all its contents.

So maybe it's the link itself that's the problem?

Are you making the link by typing in the file name or dragging the link button?
