    compare 19' LCD monitor

    Hi all,
I'm in the market for at least a 19" LCD monitor to replace my behemoth (but much loved) 21" Nokia (all 72 lbs of it). How do I go about comparing all the choices out there? I don't do any video editing or gaming (no time after working 60+ hrs/week) so that probably will have some factor in what I select.

Anyone know of good sites to get up to speed on what's important in selecting a monitor (or best places to buy one)? Should I care if it supports digital input?

    Thnx,
    Deb

    Hi Deb,

I haven't had need to check out hardware recently, buy in the past I have found Toms Hardware to be very useful.

    Hope this helps.

    Isn't a 19" LCD monitor a bit wimpy nowadays?

    Re: compare 19' LCD monitor

Not for me. The actual visible region is very close by my 21" CRT. And since 19" are about $600 and 20" are about $1200 and 21" even more, I think 19" is all I'm willing to pay for (or are you offering to send me some $?)

After educating myself for a few hours and reading all about contrast ratio, refresh, analog/digital, and reading lots of reviews from buyers about different models and companies to buy them from, I ended up buying a 19" Planar PL191M for $600 from www.tigerdirect.com which comes with speakers and a USB hub integrated. I liked their 3-yr warranty and two day turnaround on a replacement monitor. Dell had the same product for $40 more but their order web site drove me nuts and I read too many complaints about their after sale customer service and how it sucks.

    Re: compare 19' LCD monitor

I recently bought a Samsung 192N 19" LCD and I love it. It's only a week old, though. I went from a Dell 19" Flat CRT to this and I gained an inch of screen space. And a ton of desk space. I used PC World articles to make my choice. I also checked out www.eopinions.com for the average joe's opinion. I also read some articles in a Smart Computing magazine.

    Hope this helps.
