Compatibility between Access 2003 and 97 (Access 2003)

We have over 18000 Access '97 databases floating around our company. Because of this, we didn't upgrade to Office 2000 or XP. We are now discussing the version of Office that we want to upgrade to. My question is how compatible is Access 2003 with '97? Will 2003 require that these databases be converted to the 2003 format, or can they be viewed and manipulated as '97 databases with 2003?

    Thanks,
    Gino

Access developers tend to be cautious about upgrading to the latest version until the dust has settled. In any case, since 2003 is based on a later version of VB than Access97, the simple answer is no, you won't be able to avoid upgrading unless all you want to do is view the databases or change data. You can modify the data, but the objects-forms, reports, etc.-won't be available for modification in a later version of Access.

    Thanks, Charlotte,

That's pretty much the answer I was expecting.
