OE5 Banner

I have a copy of Outlook Express that was provided by an organization. There is a banner for the organization across the bottom of the OE window. Does anyone know how to get rid of that banner? I searched for everything I could think of in the registry, but came up empty. I have a sneaking suspicion that if I download and re-install OE5, the banner will still be there. Any ideas?

the only banner i've seen is the one for hotmail and it can't be removed. (and it's only visible when using hotmail)

if it's some other banner you should be able to remove it with a registry hack but i don't know what keys. i know the branded versions of IE can be hacked to restore the default icons etc. try http://www.tomsterdam.com

Get your IE and EI downloads ONLY from Microsoft. ALL others sites will alter them with this @#$^**^^% and is call "Branding".

I agree with Dave. You are going to have to do a search of the Registry for the name of the company causing the problem and delete every reference to them. That MAY rid you of the problem, installing over the top certainly will not. A note on safe ways to install however is the cover disk on some magazines. They are usually full installs and non branded. I subscribe to PC Answers from the UK which has always had clean installs.

Hi
The previous advice is good, but if you don't want to re-install, you can tweak the banner to read whatever you want (mine reads 'Internet Explorer 5.5 + 128-bit encry & Privacy Update'. Oops that's IE. My OE reads 'Outlook Express 5.5 on Windows 2000 for MerC' : you can tweak both and alot of other things besides) either by editing the Registry as described or, safer still, using X-TQ. You can get this from me at #18 , where there is also a link to their homepage. Incidentally, installing this also gives you access to the excellent LockerGnome Tips.
