    Win2K users, beware IE5 SP2!

If you use Windows 2000, beware Rose Vines' recommendations for installing the IE5 SP2 update from WWW 4.06!

I followed Rose's instructions, as I like to at least maintain the illusion of control over what goes onto my system, but I was never presented with the option to choose an install. Instead, the download began at this point in Rose's instructions.

I was therefore unable to prevent the installation of Outlook Express (at least, not if I wanted to get SP2), and Lord know what else has been done to my system. I was also forced to Restart the computer in the middle of a work day. And there's no way of removing Outlook Express from the Add/Remove Programs section.

    I'm not impressed.

It seems that, although the Win9x version of SP2 gives you options, Win2K users are not so privileged.

    Thank you, Microsoft.

Note that it's possible unique elements of my system may have caused my problem, but I figured a warning was in order nonetheless. If others find similar problems, or none at all, it would be interesting to hear.

    Re: Win2K users, beware IE5 SP2!

Yep! Happened to me too. I thought maybe I would have gotten an install option too, especially since I am administrator...not likely. I am very dissapointed as well, but then again, I've come to expect it.
You can get mad, but it doesn't help.

With that said, I've got a bit of a problem too. When using the autocomplete (in either a field or on the location bar) I try to use the arrow keys (I'd rather touch type/surf than use a mouse) and as I go down, the selection jumps back up. I can't punch the buttons fast enough to get down the list. As soon as I let up a little bit, it will jump back up the page. Anyone else have this problem? I am running 5.01 SP2 on Win2k.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

Can anyone help me to understand the differences between 5.01SP2 and 5.5SP1?
