    Total Memory

I'm running a PIII 1.8 with 640Megs of memory, on a Award ACPI Bios rev 04/29/2003....

But when I start up the machine, it shows 64.0 megs of memory (initial BIOS info?)... yet SANDRA appears to be showing 640 megs of memory...

Are these figures right? Is it a "formatting" descrepancy?

    Re: Total Memory

Looks like the decimal is out of place to me. I wouldn't worry about it. Bet it don't run like it only has 64MB of memory does it? And if it did I'm sure you could tell the difference. What does it show in the General Tab under System Properties?

    Cowboy:

It shoes 654,880 KB... I guess after my FDisk fiasco of recent, I'm just concerned that Win2K is seeing what my machine isn't, and that it might cause some problem(s) in the future.

Chuck, 650,000KB is 640mb. Add three zeroes to the end of your number.

    Re: Total Memory

    1 megabyte = 1 024 kilobytes {So 654,880 KB devided by 1024MB = 639.53 MB}

    Cowboy/Joe:

That IS the point -- Windows seems to be reading the memory correctly, where the initial (CMOS) readinfg seems off...

    Chuck,
Have you gone into the BIOS and seen what it says? Have you checked for a BIOS update?

    Joe:

I guess it's just a "screen foible", as the BIOS is showing the 640 megs...

    Thanks,

    Re: Total Memory

You might try pulling one of the memory sticks out, bootup and see if it reads the memory correctly for that amount. If it does put the stick back in, bootup and see if it reads it right this time. Maybe it will reset itself correctly.

    Cowboy:

Think that might correct the screen display figure?

    Re: Total Memory

Don't know for sure, but it might give it a chance to fix itself. If it reads right when you remove one stick of memory after bootup, it might just read it right when you put that stick back in. It's worth a try.
