not strictly a problem...

I didnt have a clue where to post this question, but as web content is usually quite graphical I thought i'd try here:

We have a set of data containing postcodes (for this question we are only using the start of the postcode eg. BR1, BR2 etc.)

What we need is a cheap way of turning this into a map of the country (UK). Ideally the colour of each postcode segment could be manipulated i.e. BR1, Red; BR2, Blue; etc

I don't necessarily want to know how to do it as I should think turning data into a map is very difficult - but would anyone know of any companies that would deal with this sort of request or would anyone know how to go about even beginning where to start looking?

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Re: not strictly a problem...

We've had something at work which does this/did this about five years ago. Large and expensive. Unfortunately I cannot remember the name of the software (surprisingly it had the word MAP in it!), but I'll try to look it up tomorrow unless someone gets in first!

    Phil

Extensive enquiries at work have revealed that the software I was dredging my mind for was MAPINFO, from the Corporation of the same name.
