    proplus.msi (office XP)

    Hi,
Windows office update downloads service pak 1 for office XP. During instalation it asks for the CD and looks for proplus.msi. I have the original cd etc... but this file is not on it, hence it will not install the pack. Any ideas?
    many thanks

    Re: proplus.msi (office XP)

PROPLUS.MSI is Microsoft Installer file for Office XP Professional with FrontPage. It suppose to be in the root of your Office XP Installation CD. The reason you don't see this file Windows hides it from you. In Windows Explorer (My Computer) click Tools | Folder Options | View tab, check "Show hidden files and folders" and uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types" and "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)". Confirm to do so and click OK.

However, because of known bug, Installer may not recognize your Installation CD as your original CD. The workaround is: copy your entire Installation CD to separate folder on your hard drive and when prompted, point Installer to this location. By the way, after installing SP1 don't forget to install SP2 and security patches (Excel Update 10/16/2002, Outlook Update 1/22/2003, Word Update KB824934, Office Updates KB822036, KB824938 and KB826293).

    Re: proplus.msi (office XP)

Many thanks for that quick response... tried all of that... to no avail. I have a choice of owc10.msi or std.msi but no proplus. I am wondering if the office was installed off a different disk to the one they gave me. I have a standard office xp disc... and i am guessing that the mising file is a officepro file? As this was installed for me, maybe i got pro installed and a standard disk... in which case the pro disk is in my physical office somewhere..... under piles of papers etc no doubt!

    I shall persevere
    thanks

If you see std.msi on your CD, this is Microsoft Office Standard Edition CD. Try to find Professional one.
