    Attachment Imposters (OL2000)

WAAAY back, I read about e-mail attachments disguised as, say, a Word doc, when the attachment was really an scr, which would execute if you tried to open the "doc". I don't recall if it was one of Woody's or if it was Fred Langa's newsletter. I received one of these attachments a couple times, and the icon looked like a Word doc.
I just deleted the message, as it was obviously bogus.
Can anyone point me to some info on this? Back issues, discussion/instruction?
    Thanks,
    David Carter

The #1 thing is to make sure you have Windows set to show you file extensions. Honesty is the best policy. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

Then you need to make sure you are patched. There was some kind of flaw with triple extensions and either Outlook or Outlook Express showing the icon associated with the second of the three extensions. But that, I believe, was addressed by an update a LONG time ago.

I remember "something" about double extensions, etc. A friend saw this "spoofing" on NAI/Trend sites and was disturbed. I gave him the update/patch/don't be gullible speech. We always tell folks to show all files/extensions, etc. I wanted to find the old info so I could explain the "how" better.

The first triple was Sadhound; here are Google results and Woody's WOW story as a start.
