    Windows 2000 hangs

After I installed W2000 I've noticed that it hangs/freezes when the
phone rings. the phone line is connected to the Data/Fax modem card.
    Two questions:
    1. (the obvious) How can I resolve this ?
    2. (the work-around) How can I disable the W2000 fax ?

Is there a setting for auto-answer that you can disable?
Does the modem card otherwise work? - i.e. to dial out?
Is there a 'wake-on-incoming-call' setting for the modem that may be upsetting something?

    Re: Windows 2000 hangs

Do you have the latest drivers, very important? What Brand Of Modem do you have. I have researched your problem and man am I glad I was using DSL the last time I had Win2000. I ran into several people with your problem. Some had to download newer drivers or patches, and some just plain gave up and tried a different Modem, sometimes two or three before they found one that worked. OUCH

Also if you have a Wake Modem option In the Modem control panel, disable it, that worked for some.

And turning off the option to "Mute Audio CD" in Caller ID Choices.
