Read a text file then auto fill a table (2000)

Is it possible to read a text file, and then have Access automatically fill a table from the content of the text file? If so, can someone give me a starting point. Thanks much for your time and insight.

Steve: Through the use of a macro, you can automatically import a text file w/specifications (the specifications have to be set up and saved). Then you can import and save to a table. To set up and save the specifications, manually import the text file and do all the manipulations one time. Save this and re-use in your macro. HTH.

If you go to File->External Data->Import, chose "text" as type of file, and browse to where it is. There, you can import easily on-the-fly if the text file is delimited w/ something, or you can create a fixed import specification, as mentioned by BCK. You can also save a specification for a delimited text import, as well. If you save a specification, you can reuse it over and over again, either manually or by macro or code as suggested by BCK. You might have some tweaks to make -- if you have numbers or dates in the first row followed by blanks or text, you might want to click on the Advanced tab and declare the field as text (which you can "heal up" later). -- thx, Pat
