    Search memo fields (Access 2000)

I am having trouble searching memo fields for keywords. We want to be able to enter a keyword string and have it return a set of found records, then output to a report. Thanks!

What problem are you having? A query can 'search' a memo field with wildcards, but if you are having an issue with speed, there is an option that I built. I built it for the AccessD List (an email based newsgroup) Archives. Right now the archives take up 170 megs, in an Access 97 .mdb, and 99% of that is Memo field space. If you do a keyword search, (a single word), it will post results almost immediately. This is due to a special 'indexing' service that I have built. It's not 100% fool proof, and there are some issues, for example, the process currently goofs a little with dates. If a post has 10-3-2003 in it, only 10 is indexed. It's something that could be fixed, but in this case, the effort of doing so wouldn't be worth it.

Let me know if you want more details. http://www.wolfwares.com/AccessD is the archive site I am talking about, and there is a 'behind the scenes' link that gives a semi-brief explanation of how it works.

    Hi Drew

Are there any sample access database code available that demonstrate your Access-D capabilities?

It's done with services created in VB, so there is no code in Access. Would you want a copy of the VB stuff?

Which do you want? The VB Service that indexes the messages, or the VB .dll that uses the indexes in searching? Or both?

Okay, here they are (I think....I didn't look at the code, just zipped the folders...)
