This list is just for future reference in case it'll help some time down the road:

    WMP Error Codes
    WMP Support Center

This site is from one of the guys on the MS WMP9 and I suppose 10 development team who helps out a lot on the Win Media NG's--you might find the answer here. I'll tell you what I'd do and it often works for a myriad of problems and takes three minutes.

Windows Media Player Site and Mini FAQ

Check device manager and make sure there is no driver problem. Then just download WMP9 again--sometimes it refreshes files that are corrupted and may get you working again. Maybe you'll find a special fix on the link directly above, but I find downloading again often works for a myriad of similar problems--if it doesn't and it last worked recently you could then try System Restore:

    Win Media Player 9 Download

Ed. SMBP: The site I gave you is not always updated in every part, e.g. the version of WMP he lists as the latest isn't, but there is still good info there. He focuses on updating tips.

I'm betting the answer is no, but did you get anything new and when did this behavior start--is it very recent--i.e. everything worked great this morning or the day before? Do you have any additional error info at Event Viewer--numbers or content of message? Also is everything intact on your Device Manager List--sound card, ect.?

Thanks for the musical interlude. Who's the artist and the tune?

    Sounds like Scott Joplin doin' "Cotton Eye Joe". <img src=/S/groovin.gif border=0 alt=groovin width=21 height=21> But Scott's a bit long in the tooth these days. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>
