    Change Monitor Resolution

I'm trying to change my monitor resolution from 640 x 480 to 800 x 600. I move the slider to 800 x 600 and click on APPLY. It advises that it has to reboot. After rebooting the resolution has returned to 640 x 480. Any idea why the system won't change resolution?

Hi Boehme. I'm no expert here but here are 2 possible causes. Your video card may not support anything higher than 640x480 which is pretty unlikely unless it is prehistoric ( might want to check the card specs if you can find them ). Second, assuming the card supports higher res the display drivers may be corrupted so I would suggest you reinstall the the drivers from the disk that came with the card or from the manufacturers site. The latter is probably a better option as the drivers may have been updated anyway.

You should also check the color depth from display properties. Some older video cards won't support the 24-bit color depth at anything other than 640x480. But I would certainly do the drivers update check first - it's so easy to do <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>
