    StyleMarkers (Word 2000)

    Dear Woody's enthusiasts,

Can anyone explain why style markers (the little black box displayed in margin when ) are only displayed for styles Headings 1 to 4 ?

    Looking forward to your response.

    Cheers

    Re: StyleMarkers (Word 2000)

    Hi Jocelyn:
The little black box in the left margin is not displayed for any particular style. It is displayed when a paragraph style or a paragraph with direct formatting has certain characteristics. Those characteristics on generally found under Format/Paragraph/Line & page breaks tab. They include Keep with next (the cause of the marks for heading styles), Keep lines together, Page break before & Suppress line numbers. There may be more, but I don't recall.
    Cheers,

    Just a quick tip -
If you would like to see the styles used and where go to the Normal View as opposed to Print Layout View, then go to Tools/Options/View Tab and at the bottom of the dialogue box there is an option for Style area width. I have mine set for 1 inch. I find this useful when reviewing a doc or trying to do a bit of troubleshooting as it is a quick way to see where the styles have been applied. Especially on blank paragraphs where no one bothers to look.
