    tilde file ~ (Outlook Express 6)

    Hi

    I have a friend who say's every time he open outlook express address book a file is created called ~ (tilde) with no extension, but if he opens it with notepad, he can see all his address's.

    Anbody know what's happening here please.

    One of the recent IE patches causes it . As you've discovered, it's the WAB, specifically the back up file made of the WAB. It's made each time you open OE.

    At this time, MS hasn't released a fix for it. You can delete it or just ignore it.

    It's much in the same way that OE (or is it IE?) creates hundreds and thousands of zero-byte files in each user's Temporary Internet Fioles folders with an eight-character filename starting with "CA" and the rest random alphabetics and numerics. Really infuriating, but currently unfixed...
