Allow changes by more than 1 user at the same time (Word 2000)

Is there a way to allow for changes to be made to a MS Word 2000 file by more than one user at a time, just like MS Excel allows?

I don't think so. Why is this needed?

I have a user that wants to be able to do that. I see that it kinda does not make sense for a Word document to be updated at the same time by more than one person, but since Excel allows it, I thought I'd throw the question to make sure.

Ask this person what is to be gained by doing this?

I've convinced her that it does not make sense. They will split the work in chapters and use the "master document" concept.
    Thanks for the help.

Just as a footnote, many have reported problems with Word's implementation of Master Documents. But I will leave it to others to explain the problems and relate the alternatives. I don't have any personal experience (or any really choice links) to share.

With regard to Master Documents, you might want to check this out...http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/General/WhyM...DocsCorrupt.htm

It seems to be the main explanation of what the potential problems are. HTH <img src=/S/compute.gif border=0 alt=compute width=40 height=20>

    Hi,

Instead of using the buggy masterdocument feature, use a different document for each chapter, then combine them using an otherwise empty document with INCLUDETEXT fields. The end result can be much the same as for a master document, but without the bugs.

    Cheers
