    Preview Pane (2002/SP2)

Is there a place to make a global change so that I can turn on/off the Preview Pane such that every folder gets the same setting?
    Thanks,

If all the folders use the same view, customize the view (select the view by name, not as current view) and change the preview setting.

If you want to remove it as an option forever (or until you delete outcmd.dat and lose all custom toolbars), start outlook with the /nopreview switch.

I tried customizing the view. I selected View, Current View, Define Views, selected Messages, Modify, Other Settings, and unchecked Show Preview Pane. But this only effects the folder I currently have selected.
    Thanks,

    That means they are one-offed.

Do you have many custom views? If not, start Outlook with the /cleanviews switch. It should remove all custom views, although it doesn't always work right in Ol2002.

Once the views are reset and in sync, customizing the view should apply to all folders using that view.

    Re: Preview Pane (2002/SP2)

When you create a new folder, a certain view is going to be applied to that folder. If you redefine that view, you should resolve the issue more or less permanently. You might not be able to use "Customize Current View" to do this, as that will be specific to the current folder. But Define view... should do it. No luck??

Many moons ago, perhaps in a thread that was cleared out, someone wanted to run an external program or script to turn off preview on one or more Outlook folders. This was one basic variation, targeted just at the Inbox, that I found in an old, old folder (file was dated 4/26/2002). Note that the PSTName is the "friendly name" that appears in the Folder Tree, and not the physical file name.

' Turn off Preview Pane for the Inbox, from Outside of Outlook (paste into Notepad, save as a .VBS file)
    Dim olApp, ns, fldr, expl
    Set olApp = CreateObject("Outlook.Application")
    Set ns = olApp.GetNamespace("MAPI")
    Set fldr = ns.Folders("PSTName").Folders("Inbox")
    Set expl = fldr.GetExplorer
    expl.CurrentView = "Messages"
    expl.ShowPane 3, False
    Set expl = Nothing
    Set fldr = Nothing
    Set ns = Nothing
    olApp.Quit
    Set olApp = Nothing

So if you get frustrated with turning them off manually, there probably is a code-based solution.
