Visio 2002/Office 2000 SR1 (Visio 2002/Office 2000 SR1)

Any problems with mixing the two?

We've had several people install Visio 2002 or PowerPoint 2002 over Office 2000 Small Business without any complaints. I'm not one of those people, so I can't rule out the possibility of mild grumbling that hasn't quite risen up to the level of a complaint.

Yes, there are problems. You need SR-3 for Office 2000 before it's safe to put Visio 2002 on the same machine. Like Office XP, Visio 2002 installs the updated vbe6.dll, and that version can break Office 2000 code containers. In fact, Visio 2002 is the application that led me to discover this problem long before SR-3 was ever dreamed of. I ran into it with Access, but I've heard of the same or similar problems in Excel VBA as well.

Ruth, I am running Offfice 2000 and Visio 2002 together with no problems. Maybe I lucked out, because as Charlotte has indicated, I had Office 2000 SP3 installed before I installed Visio 2002, so I did not have any problems.

If you install Visio 2002 after Office 2000 SP3 has been applied, the incompatible Vbe6.dll will be reinstalled over the compatible version. See KB article #304548 for one reference to this situation. The problems only become apparent when you take certain actions, such as copying and pasting a form within a database or importing a form from one database to another. Microsoft recommends a reinstall of SP3...if one had foreknowledge, just keep a copy of the "good" Vbe6.dll handy before installing anything from the XP suite of office tools.

HTH,
Russ
