2003 Final 'unpublished work ?!' (2003)

    Hello !

Just installed 2003 final. So far everything's fine but the various "splash screens" read as "unpublished work"

    Build reads as 11.5608.5606

    Is it just me ?!

    Regards

It's past the beta but hasn't actually been released for purchase to the public yet.

    Well, if you say so...

But is this the build that will go out to the "general public" ?

I seriously doubt that you really have the gold code that was released to manufacturing recently. If you do, it's going to be a long fall!

Where did you get this copy?

Have you gone through the "Activation" and did it work?

When are you getting these flash screens?

What does it state in the "About" screens in help?

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

    Charlotte-

It went RTM of course on Tuesday August 16, and I don't know if the OEM's have started shipping, but it was released for download to volume customers on Monday morning September 15, 2003 so this would be one source for Alexandre to have received it:

However, an authorized copy shouldn't announce itself as "unpublished work", don't you agree?

    Re: 2003 Final 'unpublished work ?!' (2003)

I don't know what that term means Charlotte--is "unpublished work" a term that is wide-spread that denotes something about software's authenticity? What I mean is, is that a term you've seen in your years working with Office and Access that immediately means something to you?

It was also very hard for me when I saw the thread and went looking, to find announcements of that release except the one article I had saved from last week (the 14th) that was linked from one of the MS Watch type sites --I can't remember how I originally ran into it. I went to a lot of the usual suspects like Paul Thurott's site, Mary Jo Foley's, Office sites, MS Press, and google news and could only find articles on the RTM last month. That I know happened because in the previews MS has done of Office 2003 I've been to (3) they always mention RTM. I should have asked them yesterday, when I had the chance, but I hadn't seen the post or thought about it--I just assumed the article was true--maybe I should have more than one source.

    Re: 2003 Final 'unpublished work ?!' (2003)

    > Where did you get this copy?

    MSDN universal subscriber download

    > Have you gone through the "Activation" and did it work?

    yes and yes

    > When are you getting these flash screens?

    During application launch

    > What does it state in the "About" screens in help?

Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 (11.5608.5606) (in the case of Outlook)

All that being said it seems to work just fine.

    Any idea ?

Download page implies that this remains somewhat "pre-release":

... Phone and online assisted support from Microsoft will become available on

to be finalized and available for download. ...

    Re: 2003 Final 'unpublished work ?!' (2003)

So what's the difference between "pre-release" and since it's one of many perks MSDN users pay for like access to all Betas when they're released and considerably enhanced support options, and that the volume license users get--you'd think they'd get every bit as good a program and they probably do and I'll bet they have support when they get it. There are already about 100 MSKB's on Office 2003.

Do you know what the term "unpublished work" means or has to do with?

It means what it says, the work isn't yet published, i.e., pre-release. There may be some magic in the MSDN Universal download that will change that message on October 1.

I can't read minds, but perhaps it means the same thing as the Copyright Act means by unpublished work.
