Word 2002 Frequent Crashes (Word 2002)

I have Office XP installed, and after I create a fairly short document without any special elements, just text, it crashes almost everytime I use it now. I can open it and type a few words, and then it crashes. It is doing it consistently. I have a Dell laptop that came with Windows XP Professional, and is only about 5 months old. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? I have already deleted the normal.dot and had it recreate it for me, and updated all of office last night to the current stuff, but it is still doing it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Word 2002 Frequent Crashes (Word 2002)

First, I'd look at the task manager (or equivalent, depending on your operating system). Close everything excpet systray & Explorer & start Word & see if the problem reocurrs. Secondly, I'd run the Detect & Repair (from the Help menu) in case any of the files are corrupted. The problem may also be an add-in that is conflicting with Word. Try the steps in <post#=197827>post 197827</post#>. If that doesn't work, might also run an up-to-date antivirus program.
    Hope this helps,
