    Can't open new windows in IE6 (IE6 SP1)

    Hi there,

When I right-click on a link and select "Open in New Window" IE6 draws the frame of a new window but never populates it. It just sits there spinning forever (presumably) without filling in the window. I have the same problem when I left-click on any links that would normally open a new window.

Not only is this an inconvenience, but it causes serious problems with things like Windows Update because that automatically opens a new window for the install and now my computer just sits there, never receiving anything.

I've checked MSKB article 281679 but that hasn't helped.

    Can anyone help me out?

    Thanks in advance!

    James

    P.S. I'm using Windows 98SE.

Have you installed any software that might block new windows, such as pop-up ad blockers?

I found the problem. I had installed a piece of software that replaced oleaut32.dll with a "new" version. Once I put the previous one back, everything was fine again.
