    sluggish behavior (xp)

It does everything it is supposed to do. It just deletes much more slowly than it used to. The preview pane takes longer than it used to to show the selected email. The are hardly any old emails saved and nothing is archived. I have run office repair and reinstall office. I put it on a new computer win xp (AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2600+ 2.1 GHz 256 MB) and all my other programs run fine. Any ideas?

How large is your PST file?

When was the last time you clean out all unneeded files and the ran "Compact Now" from the Personal Folder Properties pane?

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

It's tiny. I left my old stuff on my old computer. I figured if i needed to search for something I would just use the old one. The only thing i transferred was my contact list.

Disabling messenger fixed it!!! I had uninstalled it a while back, but I know now that I still needed to disable in tools/options.

Can you tell me where you disabled messenger (I assume you mean MS Messenger?)? I have the same exact problem.

    Thanks!

In outlook itself, tools/options/other just uncheck the enable instant messenging in Microsoft Outlook box.

Thank you! I think that did it. Who would have figured? I will know as I continue to use Outlook as it seemed to be more sluggish with more email in the inbox.

Do you know what the operational consequences are on unchecking that box?

Just wanted to say a big "thanks" for your post. One of my users has been having this same problem and I've been searching for an answer for weeks. One less thing to think about when I hit the pillow tonight!

Ditto. I often get calls from folks complaining about "how slow Outlook is today." One new troubleshooting question for the crew. I abhor IM so I never use it myself and Outlook is always zippy. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>
