    Power failures (home)

Need some input on this. My UPS failed to stop a power failure from shutting down my computer. UPS is going back to the store now for an exchange. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>
    My question:
When this happens, should I run a checkdisk immediately after a shutdown of this kind? (of course waiting until I know the power is stable again.)

    thanks

It would reassure you, if nothing else! Dropping power on a hard disk always has risks...

    From me you get an opinion; from SMBP you get the facts, <big>lots</big> of them!! <img src=/S/clever.gif border=0 alt=clever width=15 height=15> <img src=/S/fanfare.gif border=0 alt=fanfare width=31 height=23>

I value the opinions or facts from JohnGray who represents years of practical hands on experience in so many areas I don't touch and where I have steep learning curves, and has the day to day responsibility for administering hundereds of computers and a number of people at a company I admire and whose sites I try to watch for a lot of reaons.

Sorry about that Victoria--I keep trying to figure a way to get the Recovery Console for people in that situation and I'll bet there is one--I'll have to figure that out--it seems like there could be. I'll toss that also to somebody from MS who can nail that. Maybe someone knows. This may seem naieve, but I wonder if you could locate the folder or file for the Recovery console and then burn it and use it. I've been thinking about that everytime I see a post where someone has an OEM recovery disk and you might want to use the Recovery Console if x and y don't work, but not an XP CD-Rom. You should do fine running it from the gui or the command prompt.

    SMBP: You said:
    "Sorry about that Victoria" I was teasing, no need to apologize. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>. But; thank you for that non the less.. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

That would be great <img src=/S/clapping.gif border=0 alt=clapping width=19 height=23> if you can come up with something for the recovery console; for us poor folk who don't have it.. Keep me posted. Good Luck. <img src=/S/crossfingers.gif border=0 alt=crossfingers width=17 height=16>

    Re: Power failures (home)

    LOL John.

    SMBP: Thanks friend. Sure; toss my memory loss <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15> back at me with one of my own old threads <img src=/S/laugh.gif border=0 alt=laugh width=15 height=15> <img src=/S/rofl.gif border=0 alt=rofl width=15 height=15> LOL when I saw that. I totally forgot I had asked. <img src=/S/blush.gif border=0 alt=blush width=15 height=15> D'oh...
I will now jog your memory, <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>. If you recall, I can't use the recovery console. I have a factory restore disk. Not the full XP disk. Unless there is a way for me to somehow (?) work around that to be able to do the more comprehensive checkdisk, the plain old checkdisk will have to suffice.

Thank you both for the help. As always its greatly appreciated.
    Have a great weekend. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

I already am emailing the person who can answer that question if anyone can but there are probably a lot of people on the lounge who know if this is dooable.
