    Large Outlook .pst file (2000/sr2)

I am experiencing problem accessing the pst file, that is 1.4 Gb long. May that size represent a problem? If so, is there any way to split the file without accessing it?
    Thanks.

Excuse me, I should elaborate more.
What is happening now, is that I cannot access the information within the file, although I can clearly see that the file is there and it is accessible, by means of the Windows Explorer.

1.4 gig is big, but not overly large. At 1.7 - 1.9, you'll experience problems due to the size.

Are you getting any errors when you try to open the file in Outlook? Can you be more specific about what is happening when you try to access the file?

Sorry for not being clear. Let me picture it:
    Operating system: Windows 2000 SP3
    Office: 2000 sr2
    Computer Compaq AVO (laptop)
    Computer memory: 256Mb

When attempting to open Outlook, it gets freeze, cursor is sand-clock for about 5 minutes. After that, outlook 'appears' on screen but there is nothing at the message frames (no messages, no directories,...). The personal folders do not appear.

    Thanks.

Have you restarted the computer? Also check to see if the last useage of Outlook shut down, by using the Task Manager, "Ctrl-Alt-Delete" one time.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

close outlook, find and delete (or rename) outcmd.dat. if that fails, try a new profile - control panel, mail applet.

Have you tried the Inbox Repair Tool on the file? Office/Outlook 2000 comes with that. Here is where my repair tool is located:

    "C:Program FilesCommon FilesSystemMapi1033NTSCANPST.EXE"

This can take a very long time to run (especially stages 7 and 8) but it can really help so you can hopefully open the file again, remove some things, and then re-compact the corrupt .pst.

    Give it a try.
