Export as Image (2002)

Greetings,

I would like to automate a process for exporting a given report as an image file (.jpg, .gif, or .bmp). The report in question has three sub-reports which drive graphs, and several other data-elements.

Ultimately, the exported image will be rendered on an intranet, and this is the best way I can think of to get this report online. Does anyone have any insight as to how this might be done? I am very comfortable coding intermediate VBA, if required.

Any help or suggestions you might have would be greatly appreciated!

Warmest Regards,

Re: Export as Image (2002)

I don't know of any way (other than a PDF) to export an Access report to something that could be posted to an Intranet (or the Internet). If I were going to do it, I would probably use Automation to create the report and charts in Excel, which can create more or less respectable HTML. But it would be a bunch of work. Maybe somebody else can suggest a better mousetrap.

Re: Export as Image (2002)

I was afraid of this!

Currently, I'm hitting alt + printscreen to grab a copy of the report, importing into my image editor, cropping out the undesired parts, and saving that final (.gif in this case) image out to my intranet drive. I had hoped for a more automated solution...

There's light at MVPS.org, but I can't seem to make it work for me... nor can I get it to export my entire report...

Any help you all can provide would be greatly helpful!

I use PDF's quite extensively in part of my project.
By using the printer device or distiller, I save all reports into a default directory and folder for all to access on the network.
This I have found can also be uploaded to a VPN or Intranet as the need be.

The users have a form I created in Access to pull the relevant PDF without having to search thru many hundreds of documents.
I have heard of some free, or quite reasonable PDF printer drivers on the web, I'm sure you could find one to meet your criteria.

If you want more info on how my frmSearchPDF works, post back and I'll send you a copy of it.

Another kind of unique option is to automatically take a screen capture of the report, paste it through scripting, and you can manipulate the object though Photoshop all by code. Photoshop 7 now has scripting support which allows you to manipulate images such as cropping, resizing, compressing and so on all through VB. So you could automate this process, and you just need to learn the Photoshop Object model. (which i am sure you would pick up quickly) I know that this would work because I am currently manipulating image by code though Access.

I've been playing with a free PDF printer driver from http://www.pdf995.com

This may be exactly what you need.
Their pdf995 Editor software allows out put as image JPG, etc files also.
It's free with a small registration fee for full activation ?? $10.00 ??

Used with the DoCmd.RunCommand, acCmdPrint command, this is very versatile.
