charting on two axes (XL 97 sr2b on Win2K/NT4)

I know how to plot some some data on a secondary axes but for the life of me I can't get XL to plot two series side by side. What I find happens is the bars are displayed on top of each other. Yes, I can separate them using a 3D effect but all I want is a simple 2D plot. The overlap and gap width settings don't seem to help , or I'm not using them correctly.

The attached sheet illustrates my work around, using dummy columns to move the second series to one side. Anyone got any other suggestions?

Your workaround is the way to go.
My putting it on a sec axis, they are NO LONGER connected sets of data, so XL plots each one in the MIDDLE of the x-categories. Your dummy ranges shift one to the left and one to the right.

The only other way is to use only 1 axis and have it stated that one is 1000x the value.

Thank you for your seal of approval.

NB the example sheet uses trivial data to make it easy for me while I found a fix. The actual data are not connected by a 1000x factor hence the need for two axes.
