    vanishing colours (Word 2k sr1)

    Odd one, this:
copy a picture of a hand-cloured map from a lotus notes database.
Paste into blank Word doc. Lots of eggtimer, then accurate picture appears, but in delicate shades of grey.
Repeat performance (from same clipboard-full) into either excel or powerpoint - same accurate picture, but with colours retained.
    Why?
How to educate word to behave properly?

.... and what makes it odder, is that copying the picture in excel and pasting it into Word retains the colours.
(And a curiosity on file sizes: when they're set up to virtually fill an A4 landscape page, the .ppt is 1.6MB, the .xls is 4.32 MB and the ex-excel .doc is also 4.32MB
Has someone got shares in Western Digital <grin>?)

    (sorry about the 1-man thread...)
Copying 'as picture' the picture in Excel, then deleting the picture, and pasting the picture on the clipboard back into excel magically reduces the file size to 1.83.
Alice in Wonderland, smoke and mirrors, waht?

Copying as a picture reproduces only a bitmap of the map, while otherwise you are embedding a large object in the container. Don't know why Word didn't support the colors the first time....
