CD and DVD Drive Fast Shutdown

I have a Dell B733 system with a CD-RW drive and a DVD drive. After information is read from either drive they seem to shutdown very quickly and then have to start spinning again the next time information is to be read from the drive. This tends to cause pauses in the program that is being used while waiting on the drive to come up to speed so the data can be read. This is particularly evident when playing games. I have looked in the computer setup cmos profile and can not find any setting that seems to control how long the drive will spin after a chunk of data is read from it and there is no present request to read more data. Is there any setting in Windows 98 that controls this time so it could be set longer?

Re: CD and DVD Drive Fast Shutdown

Go to Control Panel and see if you have an item called Disk Detector. If so, open it and click on Advanced. Find the box called Spin Down in which you can set the time the CD/DVD will spin before stopping. This may solve your problem.
