    AutoCorrect (Word97/2000)

Quick question - the answer is probably NO but I would like to know why (if possible).

Is it possible to store AutoCorrect entries in a template other than Normal.dot? I have not found a way doing it. I would rather not touch Normal.dot if possible and keep everything in my own template. I know touching Normal.dot leads to corruption and major headaches from past experience.

    Thanks.

    Re: AutoCorrect (Word97/2000)

    Hi Robie:
Non formatted AutoCorrect entries are kept in a file that ends with an .acl extension. An English version in Word 2000 is MSO1033.acl. Formatted AutoCorrect entries are kept in normal.dot. I don't believe you can change that. It's simply hard coded into Word. I always keep several backups of normal.dot. As I make changes to normal.dot, I make a new backup (e.g. normal.bk1, etc.). Whenever I have a problem, I can go back to a previous version.
    Cheers,

    Phil,

All my AutoCorrect entries are formatted and therefore in Normal.dot. Pity really. Can't see the reasoning behind it though. I wish there was a way of storing them in a particular template. Oh well, thanks for the response.

    Hi Robie:
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. You can make backups of normal.dot. Make a new backup every time you make a change. That way, if it corrupts, you have a replacement. This is a good idea whether you have formatted autocorrect entries or not.
    Cheers,
