    What determines when the title bar will show the new

    The title bar should show the name of the current document that is shown in the active window. When you do a SaveAs, the name should change from Now1 to Now2 (& the Now1 doc should close). It may take a second or two, but it should be pretty quick.

    Thank you, Phil, for the response.

    That was exactly my understanding and why I posted. MOST of the time the original file name does not change, tho its 'successor' IS listed in File/Open dialog . I can edit the doc on the screen, Now 2 (tho title bar still shows it as Now1), and those changes will be reflected in the Now2 file but, as I said, it is disconcerting to see Now1 in title bar when it is Now2 (and Word recognizes it as Now2)!?!

    Well, apparently it's a bug. See WD97: Saved File Name Does Not Appear on Document Title Bar. Their workaround is to close the file & reopen...not a solution.
