geneology / genogram shapes (XP)

Does anyone know where I can find a stencil or shape collection used to construct genograms?

Don, I did a quick Google search, but could not find a Visio template . I also found out what a genogram is (My wife is an amateur genealogist and I have never heard her use the term). IMHO, it should be simple to build a stencil (.vss file) that contains the symbols you need. I am not sure what your experience is in building stencils, but , rest assured it is relatively simple - I have built quite a number of them from scratch. If you would like some help, let me know and maybe we can carry on something off-line. HTH.

Hello and remember about <!rule=10>Rule 10<!/rule>. If you could summarize your off line discussion/solution here that would be a great help to anyone with a similar problem.
Thanks

In fact, that will definately happen. You can expect more than a summarization. Cheers.

The attachment is the result of the off-line discussion. Anyone should feel free to use it - heaven knows I have received a lot of freebies from other good folks in the lounge over the years. For those who might find it useful, any insight on improvements is greatly appreciated . Note that I have had to ZIP this file because the Lounge will not upload .vss (Visio Stencils) files.

Thanks for that Ron... as a note... I have Visio Pro 5.0 and can't open the stencil because it was created with a later version. (at least on the error message they give a number to call to upgrade... although the penny-pinchers-that-be won't let me do a thing about that )

KT, thanks for that information....forward compatible but not backward compatible...hmmmm!! Trust MS to do it to us again. I know I have made stencils in Visio Pro 5 and they are usable in Visio 2002, but have never gone the other way. I actually did not think of this potential problem. Oh well, what is a guy to do.

P.S. Maybe I can fire up my old copy of V5 and see what I can do.

Re: geneology / genogram shapes (XP)

You have that backwards.

Visio is backwards compatiable but not forward compatiable. If you think about it few programs are forward compatiable. How can Visio 5 understand what the file format for Visio 2000, Visio 2002 or Visio 2003 will be.
