Windows Explorer not showing all files (XP Home)

Here's a thing. I haven't tried this in other folders but, I have a folder on the hard drive with a number of zip files in it. I configure Windows Explorer to show "Folders" view, i.e. the traditional left pane=tree/right pane=contents view. If I highlight the folder in question, all the files show up in the right hand pane. If I click the "+" symbol to show the contents in the left pane, only some of the files show up there. What's going on?

If I understand you correctly it sounds like all is working according to plan. Only your folders (directories) and sub-folders within it will show up in the left hand pane. Everything else (files) within that folder including sub folders will show up on the right hand side.

Re: Windows Explorer not showing all files (XP Home)

Actually, in XP (since winzip is fully integrated in the OS), a ZIP file appears to be treated like a subfolder, so it shows up in the left-hand pane (as a subfolder) as well as in the right-hand pane as contents in the main folder. My problem was that only SOME of the zips in the RH pane were showing in the LH pane.

    Embarrasingly enough (Thank you Windows), it's not doing it today!! <img src=/S/blush.gif border=0 alt=blush width=15 height=15>

One other thing I did discover is that the behavior is different if you click on a Zip file in either the left or the right panes. I expect this is intentional so, in the hopes of this being beneficial to others, here's what happens.

Click on a Zip in the left hand pane and the contents are visible in the right, just like it was a standard opened folder. Contents can be copied or moved to other folders and un-zip on the fly as they go.

Click on a zip in the right hand pane and you will launch another instance of explorer with the "Extract All Files" option, which will launch the "UnZip Wizard" to assist in the extraction / moving of the files.

So, whichever way you want to perform the task, you have the choice.
