    Saving Desktop (XP SP1)

Probably another FAQ. Some ops screw up my Desktop display. What's it saved as and when it happens how do I get it back as it was?

First we need to know what you now have?
Second what you want it to be?

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

    Dave,
I've got a carefully arranged set of icons laid out in grid fashion (not auto-arranged) which I want to be able to recall if something screws up the layout.

I know of no method of saving a arrangement of the Icons.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

    Roger--

I don't know what you have exactly--but a screenshot would save an image of your desktop and even if you have the maximum icons you can jot them down if for some reason the situation won't let you get a SS. Can't you try System Restore, and if for some reason your arrangement doesn't show up it should take long to reproduce it.

    Roger--

This program may be able to help you--I downloaded it some time ago, but haven't used it--give it a look--it is billed for restoring icon positions with resolution change but it could help:

    Restore Desktop 2.0

"Restore Desktop is a context menu addition that saves and restores icons' positions on the Windows desktop. Restore Desktop restores icons' position automatically during display resolution changing. Restore Desktop also allows you to restore saved icons' positions manually by click on the Windows desktop."

Many thanks for the lead. I've downloaded it and will use it next time my desktop gets screwed.
