    In the past, someone posted a Microsoft KB article conceding that yes, merging could mess with your fields (non-merge fields). I suppose you might be able to fool word by saving the fields as AutoText entries and using AutoText fields, if Word doesn't drill down into those. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15> As a person who merges as seldom as possible, I trust you will find better advice from other Loungers.

    Do you lose your fields if they are locked prior to the merging? If they are preserved then it should be pretty easy to unlock and update them after the merger.

    I tried locking the fields. I got a message that word could not update locked fields. It replaced them anyhow. <img src=/S/smash.gif border=0 alt=smash width=30 height=26>

    I will try the very long code I found on MS and see if it works. If it does - I will post a link.
