Outlook CPU Usage (Office 2002 SP2)

Since there is no search facility, I could not check to see if this was answered elsewhere...

I have Windows 2000 and have used Outlook 2000 and now Outlook 2002 - Outlook has shown a problem with both versions. At random points Outlook will take 100% of the CPU and will not stop. I have to shut down Outlook to stop the runaway.

I had ZoneAlarm on the machine and vsmon.exe used to be dueling with Outlook for CPU, so I uninstalled that. I removed drive indexing. Neither of these helped. Out look does not runaway while it is unattended, it only happens when I start using it in the morning (after having had the machine and Outlook running over night).

Has anyone heard of this and do you know of a solution? I have searched the web and Microsoft and not found anything that has worked.

    Thanks,

    Andy

When you look in task manager, how much memory is Outlook using? When you leave it loaded over night, is it minimized to the taskbar or open full screen? Try minimizing it. Outlook should release a lot of memory.

Are you using the IM feature?

I think there was a discussion of this in Woody's Office Watch several months back. I can't remember whether these was a special "call support to get the file" patch for this or whether Microsoft had a "change your Registry" solution. It was something other than "just update," though.

    >When you look in task manager, how much memory is Outlook using?
It is using up to 99% - it depends on whether or not anything is there to challenge it. Since Zone Alarm Pro is gone, it is mostly up in the 97% or higher range.

    >When you leave it loaded over night, is it minimized to the taskbar or open full screen? Try minimizing it. Outlook should release a lot of memory.
I have done both. It does not run away until I start using it again the next day, or today it has run away 3 times right in the middle of the day. This problem existed with Outlook 2000 and now continues with 2002.

    Thanks for the help!
