11 points for the first half.

I'll leave the others to someone who doesn't use a tool to work them out.

    I don't think <span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #000000; font-weight: bold"><font color=yellow>s</font color=yellow></span hi>naf<span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #000000; font-weight: bold"><font color=yellow>u</font color=yellow></span hi>
is a real word. It is an abbreviation/acronym.

    In that case I'll offer <span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #000000; font-weight: bold"><font color=yellow>s</font color=yellow></span hi>naf<span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #000000; font-weight: bold"><font color=yellow>fle</font color=yellow></span hi> which takes my total for 5 words up to 13

Re: Mr. Frugal - A Word Challenge

I can't improve on Stuart's efforts for the first five, and my score for the last five is higher:

    06. <span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #000000; font-weight: bold"><font color=yellow>au</font color=yellow></span hi>bur<span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #000000; font-weight: bold"><font color=yellow>n</font color=yellow></span hi> or <span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #000000; font-weight: bold"><font color=yellow>su</font color=yellow></span hi>bur<span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #000000; font-weight: bold"><font color=yellow>b</font color=yellow></span hi>
    07. <span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #000000; font-weight: bold"><font color=yellow>pa</font color=yellow></span hi>dlo<span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #000000; font-weight: bold"><font color=yellow>ck</font color=yellow></span hi> or <span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #000000; font-weight: bold"><font color=yellow>san</font color=yellow></span hi>dlo<span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #000000; font-weight: bold"><font color=yellow>t</font color=yellow></span hi>
    08. <span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #000000; font-weight: bold"><font color=yellow>h</font color=yellow></span hi>yph<span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #000000; font-weight: bold"><font color=yellow>en</font color=yellow></span hi> or <span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #000000; font-weight: bold"><font color=yellow>c</font color=yellow></span hi>yph<span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #000000; font-weight: bold"><font color=yellow>er</font color=yellow></span hi> (I also found <span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #000000; font-weight: bold"><font color=yellow>h</font color=yellow></span hi>yph<span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #000000; font-weight: bold"><font color=yellow>a</font color=yellow></span hi> but it's not a common word and I suspect it's plural)
    09. <span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #000000; font-weight: bold"><font color=yellow>eu</font color=yellow></span hi>rek<span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #000000; font-weight: bold"><font color=yellow>a</font color=yellow></span hi>
    10. <span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #000000; font-weight: bold"><font color=yellow>a</font color=yellow></span hi>ffi<span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #000000; font-weight: bold"><font color=yellow>x</font color=yellow></span hi>

yields 15 points for 5 words.

Re: Mr. Frugal - A Word Challenge

Between the two, Stuart and Hans came up with a low score of 26 points, which matches the best score in the answer section.

    For the record... <span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #000000; font-weight: bold"><font color=yellow>Snafu</font color=yellow></span hi> was allowed and that was the word the editor used. <span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #000000; font-weight: bold"><font color=yellow>Suburb</font color=yellow></span hi> and <span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #000000; font-weight: bold"><font color=yellow>Hyphen</font color=yellow></span hi> were also the words used in the solution, though the others offered will work, too. An alternate word for #7 would be <span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #000000; font-weight: bold"><font color=yellow>wedlock</font color=yellow></span hi> .

    I'm off to find something a bit more challenging... <img src=/S/cheers.gif border=0 alt=cheers width=30 height=16>

Mr. Frugal - A Word Challenge

The object of this exercise is to add letters to the beginning AND the end of the trios below to form new words. We're talking "everyday" words...nothing out of the Ancient Chinese Chemistry Manual will be allowed! Also, no plurals , hy-phen-ated words or Proper nouns. Score one point for each letter you add. The winner is the one who acheives the <font color=blue> LOWEST </font color=blue> score. So, the perfect score would be twenty points, adding one letter to the front and one letter to the back of each trio.

<small>Note: This is another non-original puzzle, stolen from a magazine. I'll let you know later what "their" best score was... </small>

    <pre>01. _____ DWA _____ 06. _____ BUR _____
    02. _____ TYL _____ 07. _____ DLO _____
    03. _____ XCE _____ 08. _____ YPH _____
    04. _____ ROX _____ 09. _____ REK _____
    05. _____ NAF _____ 10. _____ FFI _____
    </pre>
